Decide how you will fulfil orders

There are two common approaches:

  • Ship from India: orders are sent from Kerala by international courier. Simpler to start, but delivery takes longer and import duties may apply.
  • Stock in the UAE: you hold inventory with a local warehouse or partner. Delivery is faster, but it needs more upfront investment and the right business setup.
Start small

Many brands begin by shipping a limited range from India to test demand, then move best-sellers into UAE stock once they know what sells.

Offer the payments shoppers expect

UAE shoppers commonly pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and buy-now-pay-later services such as Tabby and Tamara are popular for larger orders. Cash on Delivery is still used, but adds cost and return risk.

Check which options your store platform and payment provider support in the countries you sell to.

Get pricing and delivery right

Show prices in local currency (AED, SAR and so on), and be clear about delivery times, shipping fees and whether duties are included. Surprise charges at checkout are one of the main reasons people abandon an order.

Check the import rules for your product category, especially for food, cosmetics and ayurvedic products, before you start advertising.

Advertise to the right audiences

Meta Ads let you target specific GCC cities and, in many cases, people with an interest in Kerala or Malayalam content. Keep campaigns for the Malayali community separate from campaigns aimed at the wider market, as the messaging and creative usually need to differ.

TikTok and Snapchat are widely used in the Gulf and are worth testing for consumer products, alongside Instagram. Google Shopping helps when people search for your product by name.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship orders from Kerala to the UAE?

Yes. International couriers ship from Kerala to the UAE regularly. Delivery times, costs and duties depend on the courier, the weight and your product category.

Do I need a separate store for the GCC?

Not necessarily. Platforms like Shopify can show local currencies and shipping options on one store. A separate store makes sense if your range, pricing or brand is very different for the GCC.

Which products from Kerala sell well in the Gulf?

It varies, but products with a strong link to home, such as food, spices, textiles, jewellery and wellness products, often find an audience among the Malayali community first.
